GME Committee

Explore GMEC's role in maintaining strong residency and fellowship programs in the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

In accordance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) is an organized administrative system that oversees all residency and fellowship programs sponsored by the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

The Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education has the authority and the responsibility for the oversight, monitoring and administration of the GMEC. The GMEC has the responsibility for monitoring and advising on all aspects of residency education. Responsibilities include:

  1. Establishment and implementation of policies that affect all residency programs regarding the quality of education and the work environment for residents in each program.
  2. Regular review of all residency programs to assess their compliance with both institutional requirements and program requirements of the relevant ACGME Resident Review Committees (RRC).

GMEC meetings are usually held the first Monday of each month at 4 p.m. with virtual and in-person participants. Minutes are taken at every meeting and distributed to every member of the GMEC and available in our GMEC archive folder on MedHub. Minutes can be obtained by contacting the GME Office.

The GMEC includes the following voting members:  the DIO, GME staff, a representative sample of program directors, the peer-selected Resident Council Leadership, the TUKHS quality improvement/safety officer (or designee) and representatives from the KCVA, EKVA and CMH affiliates.
