Insurance benefits available to employees of the University of Kansas Medical Center include: medical, dental and vision; disability and long-term care; life insurance and a variety of wellness programs.

  • Life Insurance: We provide and pay for basic life insurance, and you can choose to buy additional coverage.

  • Critical Illness and Accident: This program available to our employees can help with unexpected costs associated with a covered accident.
  • Affordable Care Act: For individuals not eligible for our medical coverage, the government marketplace may provide opportunities for health insurance coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is covered?

If your appointment is at a minimum of 48% FTE (full-time equivalency) and your position is what we call regular or limited-term, we will offer you our group health insurance coverage and our other employee benefit plans.

Medical residents are offered our medical coverage and associated plans listed under Medical Insurance and our Short Term Disability Insurance and Deferred Compensation plans.

When does coverage begin?

  • If your hire date is on or after 1/3/22, your SEHP coverage will be effective as of your hire date, if you enroll in coverage within 30 days of your hire date

Who isn't covered?

If your appointment is less than half time in a regular or limited-term position, or if you are a student employee or a temporary employee, you are not eligible for our benefits (other than deferred compensation) unless afforded medical coverage under provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. We offer our students a separate medical coverage plan.
